Kemetic Yoga refers to the entire spiritual system of self-development created by the sages of ancient Egypt. It is a worldview that recognizes the nature of reality and our place in the universe. Kemetic Yoga is the understanding of our connection to the spirits of our ancestors and the 5 true nature of Divine Universal Forces (Deities properly called Neteru). These manifestations of Neter (where we get the word nature) are the forces of nature. These are galaxies, constellations, stars, planets and the elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water. They are those ascended spiritual beings that lived in physical form thousands or even millions of years ago in epochs when the possibility of human potential was much greater and they were able to reach tremendous heights of spiritual consciousness and power far beyond our current ability to comprehend.

Yoga works as therapy on various levels of human development. On one level it provides a total sense of well-being and personal empowerment that allows any individual the ability to become self-actualized. This means that one has the energy, mental clarity and discipline needed to direct their actions towards the goals they set for themselves. What unique vision does Kemetic Yoga™ offer?

  • The word “yoga” literally means control. When we do not have control over our thoughts and behaviors, we become unhappy and out of balance. Lack of control over one’s thoughts is related to the definition of insanity. Once we incorporate the principles, we find balance.
  • While the Kemetic Yoga™ postures are unique in themselves, this style of movement can be applied to all yoga systems, whether it’s the various forms of Indian yoga or ancient Kemetic Yoga™. We put more emphasis on developing the Yoga skills of patience and focus.
  • The philosophic principals of Kemetic Yoga™ places emphasis on the rejuvenation of the entire body and mind, and not just the physical development of outer muscles and flexibility. Kemetic Yoga™ teaches you the skill of ease and how to breathe wellness in.

The breath is the life force, and we use the breath to “flow” through the movements from one posture to the next.

Built upon creative facilitation, principles of permaculture + holistic wellness, each session is a combination of yogic practice, guided meditation, sound healing, reflection and visualization. After sessions, clients often report that they left the session motivated to take action on goals in other areas of their life, noted an increase in productivity, or a boost in happiness. By visualizing what is possible for you, you truly become the guru you’ve been looking for. We are just here to remind you that it’s been inside you, all along. The work on the mat equips you for success off the mat. The greatest tool is you!

RULE OF 4 BREATHING

Under the Yoga Skills Method, we utilize a technique called Rule of Four Breathing and Geometric progression. 4 steps characterize each breath: inhale, pause, exhale and pause. Each pose is divided into steps that correspond with this breathing pattern. YogaSkills Method recognizes that each inhalation of the breath should cause energy to rise up the energy channel that corresponds to the spine and connects to the energy center (chakra/Karkar) at the crown of the head. Each exhalation should send energy through the energy channels that corresponds to the arms and legs into the hands and feet. In this manner the entire being is inundated (flooded) with life force energy, also called “qi” (chi).

Whether the session is delivered virtually for individual clients or groups onsite – the backdrop of the work is stunning, taking place in locations from all around the world (including Egypt, Jamaica, South Africa, New Orleans, LA, Wilmington, NC & Blue Ridge Mountains!). Here, an emphasis on nature as a co-facilitator is always a MUST. This nature connection means that we’re not only focused on practice but that we also incorporate locally grown foods and herbs, holistic healing modalities and outdoor adventures. The abundance that Mother Earth offers us to help ourselves find healing and balance is REAL.

Now more than ever, staying grounded is a hot topic of conversation and on everyone’s wish list for the year. It’s easy said, but is it truly easily done? That’s where these yoga + breathwork sessions come in. By performing yogic postures using this system, we are developing specific mental skills, muscle memory and resilience that will transfer into our everyday life and provide us with the ability to manifest what we seek to accomplish in life. Expect to level-up your concentration, focus, patience, self-love, critical thinking, discrimination, independence and endurance. Ultimately, through practice, the more you maintain your peace of mind, you can hold your ground in a world where anything has the potential to knock you off your square.

Moonchild Nature School teaches principles of permaculture, biomimicry and holistic wellness through land access projects, popular education circles and creative facilitation. Yoga and nature collide as we move through sequences while taking in the beauty of our majestic planet as a local class or international retreat. Our methodology is to use emergent and inquiry-based approach to education, reinforcing practices of inclusion, cooperation, design, preservation and community using a project- or residency-based delivery for students of all ages. You may find us on farms, in urban outdoor spaces, by rivers, trekking through forests and near scenic byways in order to support you to create a reciprocal relationship with the land while creating an understanding of who you are as part of the natural world. Kemetic yoga gives us tangible tools that can be applied off-the-mat to deal with everyday stressors.
